Support a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
You can help traded wildlife directly by supporting groups dedicated to rescue, such as the El Socorro Center for Wildlife Conservation (Trinidad), and wildlife education, like Corbin Local Wildlife Park (Tobago). Volunteer to get hands on experience helping animals recover from human induced harms. Also consider providing donations of food like fruits and veggies, materials to improve animal housing, and direct financial contributions.
Animal Welfare Services and Advocacy
If you are interested in assisting in animal welfare education and legal reform, check out The Animal Welfare Network and the Animals 360 Foundation! These groups assist communities directly with low cost spay and neuter programmes and by providing important animal welfare information. They also advocate for more animal-friendly policies in the government of Trinidad and Tobago.
Support a Rescue Animal Shelter
One way you can tackle the wildlife trade is to promote sustainable alternatives, like the rescue and adoption of dogs and cats. You can join the excellent work being done at shelters such as Animals Alive, TTSPCA, and Venus Doggess of Love. These non-profit NGOs welcome assistance with animal care and fundraising, as well as donations of pet food, financial contributions, and building materials.
