Veterinary Support
The Nurture Nature Campaign works with the Trinidad and Tobago Veterinary Association (TTVA) and the Veterinary Students’ Association of Trinidad and Tobago (VSATT) to educate keepers of captive wildlife about animal care and how they can stop participating in the harmful trade.
Clinic Posters
To discourage harmful and illegal wild pet keeping, wildlife trade posters will be distributed and placed in at least 70 veterinary clinics throughout the country. Clinics are selected for either their high-volume treatment of illegal wild animals or location in communities known to keep larger numbers of illegal wildlife.
Wild Rescue Guidelines
Parrots are one of the most common wildlife pets in Trinidad & Tobago, however, many suffer neglect and inappropriate care. To reduce captive mortality and replacement purchases, Nurture Nature is working with veterinarians to produce and distribute revised parrot rescue and care guidelines that include discussion of the wildlife trade.
Trade Awareness Workshops
The campaign provides targeted one-on-one and small-group workshops to better educate veterinarians of the many harms associated with the pet wildlife trade and actions that may be taken to end it. These workshops also serve to develop educational posters and parrot rescue guidelines.
